Uncle Scrooge #5 Review

Uncle Scrooge is back in issue 5 (actually its issue 409!) and his penny pinching ways continue to keep me entertained as the main story from this comic book continues where #4 left with Uncle Scrooge with “The Grand Canyon Conquest”.  Donald Duck and his nephews tracking down some crooks who are trying to swindle him out of his money.  The main story is a lot of fun and with adventures going all over the world, its just great to see the classic characters in their natural environment.  A really enjoyable read and suitable for younger fans as well.  This story was originally published in Germany in 1985 and looks very bright and modern.

There are 3 other stories included in this edition, “The Inventors’ Picnic”, which is from a Dutch Donald Duck comic book from 1982, this features Gyro Gearloose with cameos from Donald, Daisy and Uncle Scrooge.  This is another long lost character that I honestly don’t remember and its a great read, its interesting seeing different characters come into these comic books, that aren’t as mainstream.

We then get a much newer story from a 2006 edition of the Dutch Donald Duck with a great story called, “Exit the Dragon”, where Uncle Scrooge tells a story to Donald Duck about their Viking heritage.  I really enjoyed this story and learning a little more about the history of the McDuck’s.

And finally we have “Winning Washout” which is from Italian Topolino and was originally printed in 1999.  This is a simple short story featuring Uncle Scrooge being a cheapskate with a great joke.  A nice easy finish to this edition.

This comic also has a great variant cover which features Uncle Scrooge riding on the outside section of Test Track, with the Epcot Spacestation Earth behind it.  A great nod to the parks and perfect for older Disney fans.

Overall another great read as this comic book takes many great stories from different countries and from different eras and bringing them to a new audience.  I like the mix between a longer and shorter stories, it feels like better value with a few additional stories.  A really enjoyable comic with a few laughs along the way.
