Donald Duck #4 Review
Donald Duck’s adventures continue in issue 4 (371) with classic 3 stories brought to new audiences, The Perfect Calm
from Italian Almanacco Topolino 211 (1974), Hampered! from British Mickey Mouse Annual 8 (1937) and Chore Chump from Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories 265 (1962).
This issue comes with 3 different variant covers, with a special Mission Space Epcot version catching my eye, with Daisy having fun with Astronaut Donald.
” The Perfect Calm” is the main story from this issue, which sees Donald arrested and placed in jail, where he meets a Tibet monk and learns the secret of calm. Donald sets off to Tibet which results in a few mini adventures that his nephews intervene with to save Donald. We even get to see a skiing Yeti! Eventually Uncle Scrooge works out a way to make money from Donald which turns the story on its head. Its a great read and worth checking out if your a Donald Duck fan.
Hampered! is a great classic comic book story from the thirties sees Mickey and Donald going on a picnic and have their lunch stolen and blame Goofy. Its a quick story and having some old school stories like this brought to a new audience is one of the reasons I love these comics.
“Chore Chump” features Ludvig Von Drake and Gus Goose, where Gus is hypnotized into doing his chores quicker which leads to calamity. This was my least favourite story from this edition, but its interesting learning more about these lesser known characters.
Overall, #4 is another great collection of classic stories from older international books that haven’t been released before. There is some good laughs and will appeal to kids and older Disney fans.
