Custom Corner: Remember Who You Are

This week’s custom is taking its place in the circle of life.  Created by Kathlene Evans, this vinylmation illustrates one of the most touching turning points in  ‘The Lion King,” Mufasa’s majestic form glowing in the clouds above to bring a message to his son in the plains below.  His memorable words, “Remember who you are,” glow on the reverse side against a starry sky.

Evans learned about customized Vinylmations after beginning her own collection and seeing what others were creating.  With her background in art, she knew she had to try customizing for herself, painting a slew of characters and scenes from Disney animated films onto the small vinyl figures.  Inspired by a client’s request for this iconic scene, Evans used the opportunity to utilize a UV glow paint – a frequent addition to her work – to bring Mufasa’s apparition to life.

With it’s thinly painted grass and tiny hand-painted lion, this scene is perfect in its combination of simplicity and detail, its sole intent to illustrate the meaningful conversation between father and son.  Like Simba, this Vinylmation is more than it appears to be, only revealing its full potential when under a black light, his kingly figure glowing against the night sky to guide us towards who we are meant to be.
