Could More Classic PS2 Games Be Coming To The PS4?
This week the Star Wars Battlefront Darth Vader PS4 bundle launched with a collection of 4 Star Wars classics including 3 PS2 games, Bounty Hunters, Jedi Starfighter and Racer Revenger. One of the interesting things with this bundle, rather than being a port to the PS4, it’s being emulated.
Sony has confirmed PlayStation 2 emulation for PS4:
“We are working on utilising PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation, We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”
Recently the Xbox One started to offer limited 360 games including some Disney games like LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean and Tron: Evolution, using the original discs which then are downloaded to the Xbox One. And Sony have launched PS Now which allows classic games to be streamed but this could mark a interesting development for classic games to come.
The new Star Wars re-releases are digital only titles that need to be purchased, so can’t be accessed with their respected physical PS2 discs.
Currently there are many classic Disney PS2 titles on PSN including Incredibles, Bolt, Finding Nemo, G-Force, Stitch Experiment 626, Toy Story 3, Donald Duck PK plus even more classic PS One games. And there are many more PS2 Star Wars title such as LEGO Star Wars, Starfighter and Episode 3.
So these titles could be available more easily since they are already on the network for digital purchase. Could we see physical discs like Kingdom Hearts 2 on the PS4?
