What Movies Are Coming In 2016?
Happy New Year to one and all! As we step into the first few days of the new year, we look forward to what Disney has in store for us with regards to movies.
As of right now, there will be twelve new movie releases this year. Something for everyone in your family!
Disney will release The Finest Hours on January 29th and this will mark only the third time a Disney movie has been released in January. The first being Sleeping Beauty in 1959 and the second being One Hundred and One Dalmations in 1961. The Finest Hours is based on a true story about the SS Pendleton that was caught in a storm with more than 30 sailors aboard. The coast guard sends out a recue crew, not knowing if they will even find any survivors. Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Eric Bana and few other cast members that will touch your heart in more ways than one.
February 12th we will get a chance to see Deadpool from the Marvel comics. This fantasy film with a little touch of science will have you asking if this guy is a true superhero or just a joke! Fans from the comic-con conventions across the country have been asking for a Deadpool movie for a while now and finally have the chance to see Deadpool in action!
This anti-hero goes about things in a certain unconventional way but adds a little bit of a twisted sense of humor that will leave you laughing. Just don’t let him compare his chimichanga to yours!
The cast is comprised of Ryan Reynolds, Gina Carano, Rachel Sheen, Stefan Kapicic, T.J. Miller, Morena Baccarin and maybe a cameo apperance from Stan Lee.
Then on March 4th, Zootopia will be released and this is one that I am really looking forward to. The previews that have already been released look hilarious. Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Shakira, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Bonnie Hunt, Octabia Spencer and several other cast members take the form of animals of all sorts. Living in the modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia, where no matter what you are, you can be anything. From a paper pushing sloth at the motor vehicle office, to a rabbit that is a police officer, to a criminal. This is a comedy-adventure that is sure to make you laugh no matter what your age!
On April 15th, we will get a live action look at The Jungle Book. Not to sure about this one but I will see it no matter what the critics have to say about it! This live action version of The Jungle Book is based on the timeless story by Rudyard Kipling. Where we get to see Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, Shere Khan, Baloo, King Louie and several other members from the original story will surely touch your heart in a new way. The cast is comprised of Idris Elba, Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher Walken and a few newcomers as well. You will get a look at some photorealistic CGI animals and environments. Whether you see this in regular format or in 3D, go and see it!

Cast to include Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Martin Freeman, Jeremy Renner and a few other cast members that will make this an action packed superhero film. The Avengers and Captain America work together but are quickly torn apart and begin to take on one another. This is sure to be a very action packed movie that you will get to see in regular format, IMAX 3D or 3D. Which side will you join?
On May 27th, Alice In Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass will hit theaters and have people going crazy for the cast. We will see Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman return but we will see the addition of a few new actors as well that will add a little more whimsy to Alice In Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.
Making their return to the whimsy world of Wonderland. This fantastical adventure is one that will touch the heart of any fan of the stories of Alice In Wonderland. Alice will travel back in time to save the Mad Hatter. You will see some of the same characters from Alice In Wonderland but we will also be introduced to a few new characters as well. This is sure to touch the heart of any fan of the Alice In Wonderland stories, whether you are a kid or a true kid at heart!
An inticipated Finding Dory will be released on June 17th and everyone is waiting to see what Dory will or will not remember! The forgetful blue tang fish begins to remember a few things from the past that might just direct her back to her family. Dory, played by Ellen DeGeneres, is sure to bring a little humor along with a little emotion to her character again. Hayden Rolence will make his return as Nemo and Albert Brooks as Marlin. Think we will be introduced to a few new characters but will also be touched by a few of the characters that we are familiar with from Finding Nemo.
This is sure to be a comedic adventure that will take Dory on an adventure in the big blue ocean to find her family that she has been away from for a long time and might just find out what the meaning of family really is supposed to mean.
On July 1st we will get a look at The BFG (big friendly giant). Directed by Steven Spielberg and this is the first Disney film to be directed by him.
Children and families have been intrigued by the story from the novel by Roald Dahl that has been around for about three decades. This is a fantasy story about a boogeyman that comes sometime after midnight and people from the town go missing without any idea of what has happened to them.
The cast will include Bill Hader, Rebecca Hall, Jemaine Clement and Mark Rylance. There are a few other cast members that are unfamiliar to me but will play a significant role in the movie. The movie is set to be released in Disney Digital 3D and RealD 3D in theaters later this summer.
On August 12 we will get a chance to step back to our childhood when Pete’s Dragon in live action hits theaters. This live action remake of the 1977 film that was first released on November 3, 1977 will not be a musical. It will re-introduce us to the familiar Disney characters with the help of CGI to bring Pete to life!
The cast will include Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford, Karl Urban, Wes Bentley, Oona Laurence and Oakes Fegley.
On November 4 you will get a chance to see Doctor Strange, a superhero film that will introduce us to the Marvel Cinematic Universe by following the story of Doctor Strange’s life.
Many fans were taken back by the fact that a woman, Tilda Swinton, would play the role of The Ancient One. But don’t let that detour you from seeing this Marvel film and see what powers and abilities Doctor Strange might introduce.
Cast will include Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor. But know that there will be more cast members that I have not mentioned above as well.
On November 23 we will be introduced to the newest character for Disney, Moana, who is the newest addition to the Disney family. Moana is sure to touch the hearts of everyone in the newest Disney film that will be released at Thanksgiving. This computer animated fantasy will be loaded with many adventures and maybe even a few laughs along the way.
Moana sets sail on adventure to fulfill her ancestors’ quest but ends up meeting Maui, who was once a demi-god. The two end up on an adventure together on unruly waters and come across a few enormous fiery creatures.
Dwayne Johnson and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho is sure to touch your heart.
And last but not least, on December 16 we will be introduced to the upcoming space film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which is the first in the Star Wars Anthology Series. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge Of The Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
In this a group of resistance fighters come together and make plans to steal the plans to the death star. There will be a lot of fire fights, acrobatic manuvers and action that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Cast will include Donnie Yen, Mads Mkkelsen, Felicity Jones and Forest Whitaker. But now that there are more cast members that have not yet been introduced.
And do not forget to get you a little snack or pop before you take your seat!
