WDW Review: A Look Inside The Diamond Horseshoe
It has been well over a decade since Walt Disney World’s The Diamond Horseshoe restaurant (located in Frontierland at The Magic Kingdom) has been open regularly for guests, and even longer since the performers and can-can dancers have graced that stage. These days, the now quick-service dining location is only opened with a limited menu when park crowds are at their peak times. Even then, the place is only operating a few hours each day. Dining in this establishment is considered rare these days, enough where it’s at the top of the list for Magic Kingdom dining experiences that people actually try to do if they are “park completionists”. So, when I was down at the park a couple of weeks ago and I saw their doors open (first time I have seen that since I was in high school), I knew I had to pay it a visit.
The place was beautifully decorated for the holidays. On the stage was the famous Player Piano, which was playing some fun old-time tunes. Tables were set up on both the floor level and the balcony level for guests to sit with their meals and enjoy the ambiance. Along the walls, photos from decades long gone by hung in frames.
The lunch time menu is very limited and included a ham & cheese sandwich, a pulled barbecue turkey sandwich, and a chef salad. I got the salad and was not impressed at all (probably the first time in a long time I was not happy with the food at a Disney eatery). However, I didn’t come for the food, I came to enjoy the locale.
Overall, though the food was sub-par, especially for Disney, I had a very nice and relaxing meal at Diamond Horseshoe. What was pretty fun was that a lot of people dining there with me were there because they have never been able to before. For me, it was an experience I might never be able to do again, so I took full advantage of my time there. Now, if only Disney brought back the evening shows with the can-can girls…
