Mickey Mouse #9 Comic Book Review

IDW Publishing’s latest Mickey Mouse comic book features three different stories that haven’t been published in the US before, the three stories include “The Chirikawa Necklace” (Part 2 of 2) from Italian Topolino 231, 1960, “Something Turns Up” from Mickey Mouse Sunday comic strip, 1950 and “The Man Who Wasn’t There” from British Donald and Mickey 137, 1974.

The main story of this edition is “The Chirikawa Necklace (Part 2 of 2)” and follows on from last month’s story, which sees Mickey remembering a crime from when he was a baby which leads up to a undercover crime school that Mickey foils.  A great little story but honestly felt the baby story could have been wrapped up in the last story and the crime school being its own story, rather than splitting over two, but that with the story being over 55 years old, that isn’t really IDW’s fault.  It’s still a interesting story that was an interesting read but continues that trend of showing Mickey Mouse as a detective, leaving the comedy for the other stories.

A short called “Something Turns Up” features Ellsworth and is a funny little story that is a lot of fun.  And finally the third story is called “The Man Who Wasn’t There” and sees Mortimer try to out wit Goofy (you wouldn’t think that would be hard).  I was really interested to see Mortimer in this story as while I had heard of him before, he isn’t a main stream character that you see so often.

Another solid comic book with some interesting side characters that aren’t as well known, which will please Disney history buffs and also introduce these characters to a newer generation.
