The Finest Hours Costs Disney $75 Million
While Disney have had huge success recently with Zootopia, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Age of Ultron, but not every movie Disney releases does well as recently Disney CEO Robert Iger said the company expects to take a loss of $75 million on “The Finest Hours.”
During the Duetsche Bank Media, Internet and Telecom Conference, he said “We also had a miss this quarter, That will be a negative of about $75 million.”
While Disney hasn’t released details on the total production cost of the movie, it only took 40 million at the box office worldwide, however it has done well with critics and people who have seen it. In one of our Podcasts, Abe shared his thoughts on the movie which can be heard here.
This movie has been one of the few movies not linked to a existing brand and with the huge slate of movies coming out this year, Disney Studios doesn’t look like it will be hit hard with this loss, with this being the only movie making a loss out of the previous 26 movies, which usually average a box office taking of $760 million.
