“Twilight Zone” out, “Guardians of the Galaxy in?
So in recent months, there was a rumor going around that Bob Chapek, Parks Chairman, was taking twilight zone theme out of the tower at DCA and bringing in a Guardians of the galaxy theme instead to replace it.
Most people were confused and upset and i have some interesting information to shed some life on this situation.
The rumor came about from leaked information which apparently infuriated execs. Their plan is to remove the Twilight zone backstory completely and replace it with a brand new storyline involving “The Collector” from the Guardians Movie.
As i was told before from my source, WDI had been experimenting and testing the elevators for the new show for a while and Tower CMs were well aware of it. I was even told that new costumes were in the making specifically for the change.
In order to calm down fans in a pitiful attempt to be honest, they gave CMs responses for the uestions regarding the rumor from guests which was to not believe it unless it was confirmed by DisneyParks Blog.
But its been clear that the Tower CMs have known about the change for months prior to this information leaked since the imagineers and execs have been there in the early mornings and late evenings testing and tweaking the elevators, show queues, etc.
At this moment, the plan is to close Tower in the fall and do a refurb on the outside and inside of the attraction to prepare it to open in May 2017 with the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel premiere. According to micechat.com, the only thing that would derail this plan is if it is given the okay by august and that Shanghai Disney isn’t a complete disaster during its opening summer.
This plan is part of a bigger picture in order to introduce Marvel into the parks thanks to Chapek, Parks Chairman. His plan also involves adjust the Marvel mega-coaster from its original spot in the Timon parking lot to fit into the northern end of Hollywood where Stage 17, Monsters Inc., and the unused Stage 12 buildings are. This would save Timon for future DCA expansion, and better use the under-utilized space on the opposite side of Hollywood Land.
Among other plans for DCA, The Guardians Tower has the only chance of opening in 2018 while The Marvel mega-coaster would slot in for 2020, just before the Fantasyland expansion pad comes to life with a Frozen E Ticket dark ride and some of the attraction concepts recently announced for Tokyo’s Fantasyland.
