Idina Menzel Responds To Give Elsa A Girlfriend Campaign
Recently a campaign has been rumbling on social media to give Frozen’s Elsa a girlfriend in the upcoming sequel. The campaign was started by Twitter user Alexis Moncada, who wrote in an MTV Founders post that “the entertainment industry has given us girls who have fallen in love with beasts, ogres who fall for humans, and even grown women who love bees. But we’ve never been able to see the purity in a queer relationship.”
Idina Menzel, who stars as the voice of Elsa, recently responded to the campaign saying “I think it’s great,” while speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Billboard Music Awards. “Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out.”
She also added that if Disney were to give Elsa a girlfriend for “Frozen 2” she would support the decision “no matter what” and that the character “changed her life.”
Frozen 2 is currently in production and while the story is written, they are still making tweaks. As they wanted to do the job properly, rather than rushing for a quick tie in and is set to be released in 2018.
