Cars 3 Sneak Peek
New details have been released on the upcoming Pixar Cars 3 movie, which will see many of the favourite characters like Lightning McQueen, Mater, Sally Carrera and Ramone return, when Cars 3 hits cinemas on June 16th 2017. The new movie will see Lightning McQueen requiring help to compete in the increasingly high-tech racing world and brings in a new trainer — the sleek, yellow Cruz Ramirez, who is a young Hispanic female race car.
Here is some early concept art which depicts them both during a beach run during the racing off-season ahead of the Florida 500 (the Cars version of the Indy 500).
“Cruz Ramirez is trying to figure out how this old dog can learn some new tricks. Think of where he’d be in his career now in real time. (McQueen) is not an old man, but he’s one of the older cars on the circuit with new rookies coming in. People start to wonder and ask when he might retire” says Cars 3 director Brian Fee.
A new character is called Jackson Storm, who “is the face of these rookies who have come onto the scene. And McQueen is in a position where his entire racing generation is being pushed out. But it’s too early to be shown the door right now. Everyone can relate to feeling like someone is at their heels, that they might be a little outdated in something they used to be very good at, feeling an expiration date. And knowing you need someone to help you get a second chance,” says Brian Fee.
Cars 3 is still within production and while some of the upcoming voice actors haven’t been announced yet, animation is already underway in established scenes.
“We’re still creating the blueprints on some rooms of this house, but we’re starting to paint in other rooms,” the director says.
Following Cars 2 going around the world for its story, Cars 3 is much more American focused, with Brian Fee saying “This movie is a love letter to racing and the American way, We’re inspired by the Americana you see traveling through the South where every small town has a dirt track.”
