Disney To Start Making Movies In China

With China becoming more and more important to the movie box office, Disney have announced they will begin production on films filmed in China within a year. Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger recently spoke with Bloomberg and said “We have a lot of development activity right now to make Disney-branded films in China.”

With the new Shanghai Disney Resort opening this week, China is being viewed as very important to the company and added “We are very far along on this process, including developing ideas, concepts for films and identifying talent to make those films.”

This year, Disney has four out of the five biggest-grossing foreign films in China, and with the help of “Zootopia” and “Jungle Book,” it will be the first U.S. studio to earn $1 billion at the Chinese box office in a single year.
