Dory After Dark Review (Non-Spoiler)
Last Thursday, I took part in the special Dory After Dark movie event. Held in a limited amount of theaters throughout the US, this special event included a movie double feature, starting with Finding Nemo and followed by Finding Dory, some fun swag, and even a trivia contest with prizes. While this is not a review of the movie Finding Dory, which is a movie I feel and Disney/ Pixar fan should see, I wanted to share with you a look at the goodies that theaters guests left with that day.
I must admit, when I purchased my $30 ticket to this event weeks ago, there was not mention of any included items for the event. The price tag for the ticket was a little steep, and combined with the fact that I had to travel well over an hour to get to the closest theater who was having the event (AMC Garden State Plaza, the only theater in New Jersey playing it), I must have really wanted to see these two movies back-to-back in 3D. Truth be told, I really did, and Finding Nemo is one of my top Pixar movies ever, and I was hearing exciting things about Finding Dory. However, when it was revealed that there was going to be free items included with admission, I was even more excited.
Giveaways included:
~ Commemorative lanyard
~ “I Speak Whale” button
~ Tote bag
~ Nemo and Dory special edition 3D glasses (choice)
In addition, between the two films, theater staff asked trivia questions from Finding Nemo, where guests could win official movies posters and t-shirts. I ended up getting one of each for answering the question:”What species of shark is Bruce?” Easy.
Note: Since my event was not sold out, my theater had extras of the 3D glasses, so some of us were able to get a pair of each of the characters. Rules stipulated that it was one per guest, but our theater has quite a few left in this huge boxes. I’m figuring they gave them out to kids seeing Finding Dory throughout the weekend.
Overall, it was a great event. Fun, engaging, and filled with Dory. I have been to a few of these special events that Disney/ Pixar puts on for their films, and I have yet to leave disappointed.
Special thanks to the team at the AMC Garden State Plaza for making it a great evening. Most of us there were adults (I would say at least 80% if not more), and sometimes it’s hard to get a group of us excited about Disney (and free things) to “behave” during trivia. You guys kept order, and the finale where some of the guests got to speak whale for a slew of theater prizes (I should have entered… I would have rocked it) was hilarious.
