Disney Cruise Line Norway Fjords Day One – June 29 2016
DISNEY CRUISE LINE NORWAY FJORDS
JUNE 29 to JULY 6
DAY 1
It was a rainy day in Copenhagen when we were on our way to the Disney Magic. On the previous two days we stayed in the town, it was sunny and warm so this was most unusual. The check-in went smoothly since I decided to book us on the earliest time slot available.
Minnie was there to greet folks but the line was too long so I didn’t bother. We were on board by 12 :30 pm as we were boarded on Deck 1.
This was disappointing to me since this would have meant we missed out on the traditional walk-in onto the ship where crew members announced our presence to great applause. It felt empty just walking in, having to take the stairs to reach the Promenade Lounge.
A short walk afterwards, we walked to our room for the first time, the family relaxed with 101 Dalmatians playing on the television, I decided to check out the new additions they added to the ship since I last went in 2013. First off was the adult area where all the nightclub lounges with the exception of Keys were re-done to have a more modern look. The main nightclub was now called Fathoms looked much better now than it did as the Rockin D Lounge.
I then walked into the O’Gills pub to meet up with the Facebook group I assembled just for this cruise , it was really fun meeting the folks who signed up and learning how much the page meant for them for the past year.
We talked about past trips, pins, meet and greets throughout the 2 hours we met up. We then split up since it was almost time for the mandatory drill and the Adventures Ahoy show, which meant it was near the time the ship would soon depart.
The sailing took much longer this time around since it didn’t sail on cue at the show, it left about 40 minutes afterwards during dinner. Our first restaurant of the cruise was my favorite, Animator’s Palate. The family loved the new show with of course Sorcerer Mickey showing up to save the day. The room was much brighter than before so it was much easier to see Mickey and take photos of him.
The room would change colours as the dinner went on until the final show where it would burst into full colour :
After dinner, I decided to get my autograph book and marker from my stateroom, it was time to begin my tradition of meeting every character any chance that I got and give them a sketch in return. But that would have to wait for now. It was time for the evening show at the Walt Disney Theatre and tonight it was the classic Adventure’s Away , a musical summary of our first day about a boy who wants to be the captain of the Disney Magic one day. It’s very fun but it was odd to hear Wayne Allwine’s voice since the Alaska cruise uses new recordings from the current voice actor Bret Iwan.
It was now time for the characters. They loved getting sketches in Barcelona, I’m sure they would have love it now. My first characters of the evening were Goofy and Mickey. They loved seeing the comics I brought from Canada to show them.
After meeting the duo, I soon went off to the room where the family was watching Guardians of the Galaxy and Robin Hood as it was then time to go to bed. We had an action packed day awaiting us the next day.
I really enjoyed reading this. I hope that you can find the time to make additional entries, but I understand that it takes a lot of time. Thanks…
