Review: Nightmare Before Christmas Coffin Dolls- Part 1 (Diamond Select)
Halloween and Christmas are fast approaching, and over the next couple of weeks I am going to take a look at a line of collectibles from a franchise that spans both holidays, The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Back in 2015, Diamond Select Toys released a new replicated take on their classic NBX coffin doll to new collectors. These limited edition dolls were a hit, and Diamond Select has since expended the line to include open edition dolls as well as new designs in 2016. Today, here is a look at a few of the first limited edition dolls that appeared on shelves in the fall of 2015.
Jack Skellington Coffin Doll
Now, I reviewed this Jack doll individually back in 2015, but I want to say again how much i love this doll. The look is spot on, the articulation is great, and he’s just a fun addition to any NBX collection.
This particular figure is an AP (Artist’s Proof) figure (all of the ones in this review are), and since I also have one from the LE run. Comparing the two of them, there does not seem to be much of, if any, difference in the AP and regular figures. Upscale quality for both.
Sally Coffin Doll
While Jack is light weight and highly articulated, Sally is quite a lot heavier (due to the material used for her limbs and torso) and does not have a lot of articulation. While the main joints have articulation, places like the elbow, wrists, and knees have none. Still, I like her look a let, especially when she is displayed next to Jack.
Here are some poses of Jack and Sally together.
Like I said, they look great together, all ready to put on the best Halloween ever.
Jack and Sally Coffin Doll Set
Featuring different head sculpts for each Jack and Sally, the 2pk set was also limited edition. Since the torsos and limbs of these dolls are the same are the other coffin dolls, I am just going to compare the different head sculpts and leave these guys in package for now.
Unfortunately, unless your local comic book or specialty store still has one of these floating around, all of the limited edition dolls are no longer available. However, these dolls sold so well that Diamond Select made an open edition run of Jack and Sally, which can be purchased over at our friends at Entertainment Earth, along with a bunch of other dolls and NBX collectibles. Both of the open edition Jack and Sally dolls have their own unique head sculpt as well.
Next time around, we are going to take a look at two Hot Topic exclusive dolls from last year, as well as a couple of the newly released dolls from this year… just in time for the holiday season.
Have a great week.
