Shark Reef to Close at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon
Expansions have been rife at the Disney parks. New updates, attractions, areas, and re-imaginations have fans excited for their next visit. Joining the expansion process is Typhoon Lagoon at Walt Disney World. One of Disney’s two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon has been a staple for visitors and locals to beat the heat. While the addition of Miss Fortune Falls has stirred up anticipation, Disney has announced the closure of a beloved attraction.
This September, Shark Reef will be closing to make way for the latest expansion. Guests will no longer be able to snorkel with sea creatures and take in the sights of the saltwater reef. Despite the popularity among visitors, Shark Reef required a large amount of maintenance and the cost of upkeep fared too much for Disney. The attraction had been rumoured to close over the past few years, but kept up operation until new plans could be developed and announced. Even with this closure, the guest capacity for Typhoon Lagoon will still increase. Disney has yet to comment on the closure, but a formal announcement is expected soon.
