More Job Cuts At Disney Interactive & Consumer Products Division
It has been announced that Disney have cut over 250 jobs from its Consumer Products and Interactive division, around 5% of its 5000 employees were cut. Half of those job cuts have come from its video game division, which has been a direct response from Disney cutting internal game development, which has seen games like Disney Infinity and Marvel Avengers Alliance cancelled.
These cuts have been made at both the Bellevue, Washington and Glendale, California sites, with the other half of job cuts being made in its human resources and marketing departments following the merger of Disney Interactive and Consumer Products, as some of those jobs overlapped and were no longer required.
This is on top of the 300 jobs that were cut in May when Disney Infinity was cancelled and another 30 jobs being cut in July at its Maker Studios, plus other cuts at its Imagineering research and development operation.
Our Take:
All of these cuts have been made as the division has been suffering loses and the main decision to return to licensing out game development to companies like EA, TT Games, Insomiac, rather than making games internally. It’s been a bad year for Disney video game staff and players, with many titles being cut as Disney return to their licenesed system.
