Enchanted Tiki Room #1 Review
Following the success of “Big Thunder Mountain”, “Figment” and the “Haunted Mansion”, Marvel’s latest comic book series from their “Disney Kingdom” range is “The Enchanted Tiki Room”, which is based off the classic theme park attraction.
The story is set on a tropical island, where visitors have come from around the globe to visit the magical “Enchanted Tiki Room”. These visitors include “Angles”, old actress, “Wally”, a love sick man and the spoilt “Randy” family, plus other characters like Chip who is volunteering. These characters are quickly established and use their stereotypes to save too much backstory. As you’d expect we also have appearances from the famous birds including the Macaws. But I can’t help but feel too many characters were introduced in this first episode to set up the series.
There are a few nice little touches and the Easter Eggs located within the comic book, those little nods to the attraction, which is exactly what Disney fans want from these series, but giving a fresh story to the reader. But these will be lost on readers who haven’t been to the attraction.
One of the great things with this comic book, is the humour, it’s one of those aspects from the attraction that is endearing and I’m glad to see it included in this series.
As you might expect with a story set on a tropical island, the artwork is very colourful and vivid, it feels like a Saturday morning cartoon and I think it works well with the original source. This is a fun comic book and the artwork represents it well.
I’ve been a fan of the attraction for a while and I enjoyed reading this first issue from this series, I’m excited to read the rest to see where the story goes. If your a fan of the attraction or a big Disney fan, I’d easily recommend it.
