Disney Set To Cut Staff In India
With Disney previously announcing that they will be pulling out of local film production in India, it is expected that Disney will be cutting 90 members of staff from its 600 workforce. The cuts are expected once it’s last movie, “Jagga Jasoos”, is released on April 7th as part of its India restructuring.
Disney will be putting the emphasis on consumer products, retail partnerships and games will be combined to deliver a “holistic, franchise approach.” Focusing on their international movies and with character licensing growing, merchandise is still a priority plus their TV networks.
Andy Bird, chairman of Walt Disney International, said the staff reduction in India was part of the ordinary course of business. “There is always rebalancing and recalibration to reflect local market realities,” Bird said. “We constantly look at the evolution of our company in every market we do business in.”
