One Memorable “Rogue One” Scene Added in Reshoots
Since it’s release, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been a critical and commercial success with audiences praising the story and characters, setting a good tone for the next stand-alone Star Wars film. It is also common knowledge that the film underwent massive re-shoots before it’s release. As previously reported, the main reason for the re-shoots was the scripted ending differing from the filmed one, but one of the most memorable moments in the film was also a late addition.
When the Rogue One team announced that Darth Vader would be making an appearance in the film, fans of the series were ecstatic. One scene stands out for fans: the ending where Vader storms through Rebel soldiers. According to John Gilroy, an editor for the film:
“What was added — and it was a fantastic add — was the Vader action scene, with him boarding the ship and dispatching all those rebel soldiers. That was something conceptualized a little later… It was a really great punch in the arm and something I think fans wanted to see.”
Major re-shoots for any film can cause stress for fans, but after reading about the original film and watching the released one, fans can rest easy that the right choices were made. Adding Vader created the tone for the first Star Wars film where tensions were high and conflict was on the rise.
