Carrie Fisher Will Star In Star Wars: Episode IX
Shortly after Carrie Fisher passed away, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy and the Star Wars: Episode IX director met to discuss how to handle Leia in Episode IX. While Carrie Fisher had finished filming all her scenes for Episode VIII, The Last Jedi. It has been confirmed by Carrie Fisher’s brother, Todd, that Leia will also be appearing in 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX as both he and Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, have given Disney the go-ahead to use “recent footage” of Fisher in Episode IX.
Todd spoke with the New York Daily News and said “Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don’t, She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan–when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what’s happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue.”
Following the recent release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm released a statement to say that it has “no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.”
