D23 Expo Review: USPS Disney Villains Stamp Collection

On Saturday, July 15th at D23 Expo 2017, the United States Postal Service, in conjunction with Walt Disney Studios Ink and Paint Department, released a special edition set of ten (10) Forever stamps celebrating Disney Villains who were immortalized on animation cels to create the animated feature film. After a short ceremony at Center Stage on the Expo floor, the USPS began selling and cancelling the stamps for expo-goers. I was fortunate to be able to attend the event and wanted to share with you what I picked up to commemorate the day.

My purchases being cancelled.

Disney Villains featured: The Queen (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves), Honest John (Pinocchio), Lady Tremaine (Cinderella), Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland), Captain Hook (Peter Pan), Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), Cruella DeVil (101 Dalmatians), Ursula (The Little Mermaid), Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), and Scar (The Lion King).

Sheet of 20 Stamps

Featuring two of each design on a collector’s display sheet. These are currently available online at USPS.com and at your local post office.

First Day Covers

Set of 10 envelopes, each featuring one of the stamp designs and a special D23 logo stamp. Each hand cancelled in person with the date of the first day (July 15, 2017).

Digital Color Postmark First Day Covers

Set of 10 envelopes, each featuring one of the stamp designs as well as a special color print, celebrating the release and the given Disney Villain’s sidekick/ henchmen. Each hand cancelled in person with the special D23 logo.

There were other items available at the event, and some of these items have also made it online at the USPS store.

Personally, I love that they are celebrating the Disney Villains in this fashion. Though a couple of the inclusions have me wondering who was making the call, overall I think this is a great series of stamps, and I am half tempted to use these as my stamps for this season’s holiday card mailing to my family and friends. Since they are Forever stamps, investing in them now for a few months from now does not carry the risk should the stamp rates rise in that time period.

Thank you USPS and Walt Disney Studios Ink & Paint Department for a great series of stamps. I look forward to seeing what’s next in this collaboration.

What do you think of these new stamps from the USPS? Sound off below.
