Star Wars #39 Review
The second part of the “Ashes of Jedha” storyline continues to see Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo dealing with the aftereffects of the events of the first Death Star destroying Jedha, with both Rogue One and Jyn Erso being name dropped in the story.
While the stories that happened between the classic movies are interesting, I like how this story is incorporating the events of Rogue One. One thing that I do like about this series is the artist style, which is much more realistic as they’ve used the actors real life expressions from the movies, it only jars when new characters are shown that don’t match this style.
There are some good action moments in this episode, especially the scene with Luke Skywalker taking out the Stormtroopers with his Lightsaber. It’s also a good way of showing Luke gaining his skills and learning more about the effects of the Empire.
One of the other interesting aspects of the story is how it tries to show Princess Leia’s frustration at the other leaders actions over the Empire and also shows how the Partisans do whatever they feel is necessary to hurt the Empire.
Often with mid story issues, they can suffer from slower pacing to stretch out the story, but this didn’t feel slow at all, giving us more detail and developing the story plus establish new characters.
Overall: Star Wars #39 continues to tell an interesting, post Rogue One story with the original main characters dealing with the ruined planet and trying to stop the Empire from doing it again. I’m really interested to see where this story goes.
