Star Wars #40 Review
Star Wars #40 is the third part of a story bringing the classic characters from the original trilogy into the aftereffects of Rogue One on the planet of Jedha.
This issue sees Luke Skywalker investing a lost Jedi temple and coming into contact with a huge worm monster before bumping into some new characters that will be no doubt explored more in issue #41.
Its also great to see more bickering between Han Solo and Leia on the Millennium Falcon, as it shows how their relationship was growing during this period. Plus having Han talk lovingly to his ship is also a nice touch.
There is plenty of action in this edition, with a battle with a monster plus Luke Skywalker being involved in a terrorist attack against the Empire, however still showing his unwillingness to kill.
I also liked the flashback scene Leia has with her adopted father, Bail Prestor Organa, who looks exactly like the actor, Jimmy Smits, who played him in the movies.
As with the previous two issues, the artists are using a photo realistic style to show the main characters, taking facial expressions from the movies and using them to great effect. I do really like this style, however it clashes with original characters, as the style isn’t used here, which I wish they had done, since it can be jarring to keep flipping between styles.
Overall: Another great book with an interesting story that helps fill in the blanks about the aftereffects from Rogue One, which I’m really enjoying and the art style makes it unique but can distract from the experience. I can’t wait to see where this story is going.
