Star Wars Adventures #6 Review
Issue six of the Star Wars Adventures comic book series features two stories, “Rose Knows” and “Tales From Wild Race: Podracer’s Rescue”. Both stories feature Star Wars characters as younger versions in adventures before the events of the movies.
“Rose Knows” shows a younger Rose helping out Poe Dameron, who has been locked out of the starship due to an issue with the doors, which Rose is trying to unlock. This is a fun story to help fill out Rose’s character and shows her unique skill set of being a mechanic, plus shows her relationship with her sister. This is an action packed story with lots of space battles between First Orders TIE Fighters and Poe in his X-Wing.
“Podracer’s Rescue” takes place before the events of “The Phantom Menace”, which sees a young Anakin Skywalker help out the local medical bay with a part from his podracer, which costs him a race.
This series is a interesting and fresh take on Star Wars characters, mixing up the eras and giving readers chance to know many different characters. I also like how this issue is giving all new stories, rather than just retelling stories from the movies.
Star Wars Adventures has a unique artist style that is very bright, colourful and bold, it has that Saturday morning cartoon feeling to it and is perfectly suited to its target audience, which has a younger slant. And using younger versions of characters works better for this audience.
OVERALL: Issue 6 is a great fun adventure for younger Star Wars fans, plus I like how it has a mix of different eras. Having one story featuring a brand new character from The Last Jedi, followed by another based on Podracing, isn’t what I was expecting and I think this is good for Star Wars fans. With two new fun original stories, this is a easy recommendation for younger Star Wars readers.
