CMA Report On Sky Takeover By 21st Century Fox Delayed
The UK competition watchdog has delayed its report on the 21st Century Fox’s $15 billion takeover bid for Sky following the recent announcement of Disney buying 21st Century Fox.
The proposed deal, which has been cleared elsewhere in Europe, but has stalled in Britain amid tough opposition from some political quarters due to a worry that a takeover of Sky would affect media plurality in Britain, since Fox and News Corporation, own a number of newspaper titles including The Sun, The Times and the Sunday Times.
Originally the report was due in December and pushed back to mid-January, but have now been pushed back to the end of the month due to the vast number of submissions about the case it had received.
The authority’s full report is due to be submitted to the British government’s culture secretary in early March.
Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox isn’t dependant on the Sky buyout going through.
