Phoenix Resurrection: The Return Of Jean Grey #5 Review

The fifth issue of the mini series, Phoenix Resurrection: The Return Of Jean Grey sees the climax of this weekly series, with Logan finally able to get through to Jean Grey, but the Phoenix doesn’t want to let go, resulting in an epic battle between them.

This has been an interesting series, bringing back Jean Grey from the dead, with Phoenix teasing us fans with glimpses of the past, with it trying anything to convince Jean Grey they need one another.  But it ends with Jean Grey standing alone, leading straight into a new X-Men series starring Jean Grey.

The artwork is once again fantastic and the bright colours of the Phoenix just explode off the page, plus the way the artists show how the Phoenix uses its powers to create visions, flipping Jean’s look through the ages, works so well.

In some way, it’s a shame this series just didn’t kick off the X-Men Red series, but it’s a shame this title brought in all the different X-Men, when in reality, they were barely used these characters, as only Cyclops and Logan had any real impact on the story.

OVERALL:  This is a fantastic finale to the series, amazing artwork and a big finish, though I can’t help but think this series could have been done in just a few issues, since it really plodded along in the middle.  It’s a great finish to a mini series and so little too place in the first four issues, that a new reader could jump straight to the final, so this issue is well worth reading.
