Review: WDW’s New Starbucks “You Are Here” Collection
Throughout the past few months, Starbucks locations within the four Walt Disney World theme parks released new designs in their “You Are Here” Collection. While I personally don’t know the exact date that each of them were introduced into the parks, they were not there when I visited WDW last September. However, when I was there again just a few weeks ago, all four locations had their new mugs. It looked like most days their stock was sold out by the end of the given day I was there, but it looked like they were still getting restocks throughout my trip. None of the locations totally sold out of either the mug or the ornament (which both feature the same design). Let’s check out the new mugs.
Magic Kingdom
Celebrating the magic of the Fantasyland, Cinderella’s Castle is flanked by Captain Hook’s pirate ship from Peter Pan’s Flight, the hippo from it’s a small world, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, the Sword in the Stone, Rapunzel’s tower, Dumbo, and the big top from Storybook Circus. The design is in a beautiful blue/green/cream motif.
Epcot
The new Epcot design celebrates World Showcase and Illuminations: Reflections of Earth, in a blue/gold/gray color scheme. I actually wish that they would launch the Friendship Boats during Illuminations as depicted in the design. Sadly, that’s not the case.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The new design for Disney’s Hollywood Studios celebrates the opening later this year of Toy Story Land, with a focus on one of the Aliens from the franchise. Also featured in the blue/green/grey design are the Tower of Terror, the Rock n’ Rollercoaster, and the entryway ticket booths (which took inspiration from the former Pan Pacific Auditorium in California).
Disney’s Animal KingdomThe final new design released is from Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Featured in a red/blue/grey design are elements from the Asia section of the park, including Mount Everest, a tiger, a couple of bats, a one of the rafts from Kali River Rapids.
Overall, I like these new designs and happy that I was able to add them to my collection. Previously, adding the designs that were released were hit and miss, as they are very popular. That being said, it is clear to me that Starbucks will be releasing designs more often, based on these current designs. My reasoning? These designs no longer celebrate the park as a whole, but rather a certain part of the park or the welcoming of a new part of the park. I expect these designs to be replaced, for the most part, within the year (I am thinking sooner). Time to track down the designs i am missing before there are ever more to collect.
