Infinity Countdown #1 Review

Infinity Countdown #1 kicks off the newest Marvel event, which sees the Infinity Stones reappear around the cosmos, with this issue focusing on the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Power Stone, which is being protected by Drax.

There are two separate stories going on, first is Drax defending the Power Stone from the Shi’ar Talons, which felt a little odd, since Drax is standing on his own, with a telepathic connection to another being on the other side of the universe.

With the second plot focusing on the rest of the Guardians along with Ant-Man and Nova, defending a planet from a elder, The Gardener, which takes a surprising twist and sees Groot delivering much more lines than “I am Groot”.  Which instantly made this issue stand out.

This issue is full of action and while it is the start of a big event, which will no doubt end with the big reset button being pressed in May, when Marvel are relaunching all their series.

The art style isn’t perfect, it’s a little too simpstic for me and not what I expected from a major event.  It looks like each issue from this mini series will focus on each Infinity Stone, where it is and who has control over it, rather than just throwing them all together, which will perfectly set the scene going forward.  It also means less characters are in play for each issue, which has been the problem for Marvel’s other big event “No Surrender”, though there seemed no need for Ant-Man or Nova to be included.

OVERALL:

This series promises to give a big impact to the Marvel universe and this issue kicks off in perfect style, lots of fun and action.  It does feel more like a Guardians of the Galaxy comic than a major event, but I really enjoyed reading this issue and can’t wait to see where it goes.
