Darth Vader #19 Review
Darth Vader #19 kicks off a new story called “Fortress Vader”, which sees Darth Vader and his Inquisitors tracking down Jedi across the Galaxy. With this issue being very dark and twisted as they discover a Jedi called Eeth Koth and kidnap his baby. This isn’t your usual Marvel comic book, as we really see the evil side of the Sith, which is refreshing.
I also loved how the writers did a fake out moment with one of the Inquisitors having a change of heart and letting the family go, only to use the force to snatch the baby at the last minute. It was a brilliant scene and continues to help build up these villains. Which is often lost in the main series, since the focus is usually on the heroes. But nothing makes heroes look stronger than an even stronger villain and this series makes Darth Vader look incredibly deadly and vile.
Bringing Eeth Koth into the story and showing his death is another impactful moment, since this character did appear in the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, so it’s not just a random new Jedi for the team to kill.
This book is full of action, with not a huge amount of discussion, which helps the flow of the story move along at a nice pace. It won’t take long to read, but I’d recommend going back and re-reading it, especially to admire the artwork.
OVERALL: Once again this Darth Vader series continues to impress and this issue is full of a nasty and evil side of the Empire, which I love to see. Darth Vader is an easy recommendation to any Star Wars fan.
