Review: Best of NBX Select Action Figures Series 1

Over the years, the team at Diamond Select Toys have thrilled fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas (NBX) with their series of Select Action Figures. These series of figures, which have continued to amaze me with their breadth and scope of characters from the movie, have been quite popular over the years. With Series 10 coming out soon, Diamond Select has also decided to re-release some of their more popular characters again in a scaled-down, “Best of” Series. Today, I check out a few of the characters from the first two “Best of” Series. Let’s take a look.

 

Figures in this review:

Series 1: Jack Skellington, The Mayor, & Lock, Shock & Barrel

Series 2: Dr. Finkelstein

 

Now, these “Best of” figures are considered scaled-down, meaning that they don’t come with a bunch of accessories that they originally came with. For example, Jack originally came with a pretty big diorama piece. This makes the figures more affordable for the consumer who are focused on just getting the action figures.

 

Jack Skellington

Jack comes with a display stand because, let’s face it, his legs aren’t cut out for support.

 

The Mayor

The Mayor does not come with any accessories, but does retain his ability to change his “happy” face to his “sad” face.

 

Lock, Shock & Barrel

These three mischievous track-or-treaters come with their masks as well as a lollipop. Note: I do not believe their masks are made to actually be put on them, as doing so could damage their face paint.

 

Dr. Finkelstein

 

The resident doctor of Halloweentown comes with his wheelchair. Additionally, his head hinges open, and his brains are removable.

 

Also part of the “Best of” Series 2 are Sally and Pumpkin King Jack.

 

For those that missed out on some of these NBX characters the first time that Diamond Select released them in action figure form, this is a great way to add them to your collection. They can be found at a variety of locations, including with our friends at Entertainment Earth, who stock hundreds of items from Diamond Select.
