Before Christmas, Target will add 100 More Disney Departments to Its Stores
Target is adding one hundred new Disney Store departments to its stores in the United States, bringing their total over 160. The news comes on the same day that The Disney Store itself announced the closure of 60 more traditional, standalone stores.
Disney and Target’s partnership was announced at the 2019 D23 Expo. The initial locations opened in October 2019, expanding throughout 2020.
Target promises exclusive products. Their 2021 holiday exclusive lineup includes Disney Raya and the Last Dragon Land of Kumandra Set, LEGO Star Wars The Armorer’s Mandalorian Forge, and Bluey & Jean Luc’s Caravan Adventures Playset.
The company has yet to announce which stores will get the new sections. There are 1,914 locations of the store in the United States.
In March, Disney Store issued a press release announcing the closure of “at least 60” locations. It read in part:
While consumer behavior has shifted toward online shopping, the global pandemic has changed what consumers expect from a retailer,” said Stephanie Young, president, Consumer Products Games and Publishing. “Over the past few years, we’ve been focused on meeting consumers where they are already spending their time, such as the expansion of Disney store shop-in-shops around the world. We now plan to create a more flexible, interconnected ecommerce experience that gives consumers easy access to unique, high-quality products across all our franchises.
The company has yet to make any public comment about their ecommerce plans. shopDisney.com remains more or less as is, from spring to now.
