Australia’s New Disney Store sees Lorcana Fan Camping Out
Last year, a variety of Australian malls featured Disney Store kiosks, in celebration of the company’s 100th anniversary. Neat, but a pale imitation of the much beloved Disney Store itself.
Leave it to the land down under to step things up this year, with a larger The Disney Store Pop-Up, open from August 10 to 30.
The newest tenant at Westfield Doncaster is offering “lightsabers to plush toys, merchandise direct from Disney Parks including ear headbands, apparel and accessories, and limited-edition items not available anywhere else in Australia.”
It’s all to promote the launch of a new Australian Disney Store website, and a Victoria warehouse. (Not sure what the hold up was: the Australian site was set to launch in June 2022. Is this a re-relaunch?)
But special among the products is a limited edition special collector’s set of foil cards from Disney Lorcana TCG D23 Collection. Only a select number of places around the planet will even carry these products.
Rod Addamo, known on Instagram asĀ that_aussie_collector, is showing serious commitment to getting a set. On Instagram, he posted:
Got here at 2pm YESTERDAY and camped out for the last 19 hours. Managed to be the very FIRST person in line for the grand opening of the @disneyaunz Pop-Up @disneystoreau and about to become the first person in the ENTIRE COUNTRY to buy and own the @disneyd23 Exclusive Lorcana set!!
His fandom for Marvel has seen him profiled in British newspaper The Daily Mail, among other outlets.
One can only hope that residents of Doncaster, Victoria flood the pop-up shop, to the point where Westfield malls pushes Disney to start planning a permanent push back into retail.
