New Mr. Potato Head Voice Foreshadowed his Casting

The voice actor for Bugs Bunny set his carrot aside for a little while, taking over the role of Mr. Potato Head for an iconic franchise. Toy Story 4 used unused lines from the first three films, to give the late Don Rickles another credit. But for Toy Story 5, they’ve recast to Jeff Bergman.

In July 2023, Bergman posted a number of character impressions on Facebook. On a post with Mr. Potato Head, he noted:

Mr. Potato Head voiced by the great Don Rickles who happens to be one of my all time favorite comedians. On a school night, I stayed up late to watch him on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson as often as I could.

Bergman is also the voice of Fred Flintstone and Yogi Bear in recent projects, and has doubled as Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) in Lego The Incredibles video game and Bulldog (John Cleese) for the Disney-Pixar Planes video game.

Anna Vocino takes over for Estelle Harris, as Mrs. Potato Head. Her past credits include Grey’s Anatomy: The Video Game and Netflix’s Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. Timothy Dalton has not returned as Mr. Pricklepants, and is replaced by John Hopkins (Midsomer Murders and Poldark). The late Carl Weathers was replaced by Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters) as Combat Carl.

New voices include Greta Lee as Lily Pad, Craig Robinson as Atlas, and Matty Matheson as Dr. Nutcase.

It is scheduled for a June 19 release.
