Star Wars Adventures #13 Review

The 13th issue of IDW’s Star Wars Adventures contains two stories, the second part of “Intermission”, which sees Anakin Skywalker and Padme trying to stop Madame Synata and the Separatists.  And “Tales From Wild Space: The Blue Brothers”, which sees Max Rebo, the organist from Jabba The Hutts palace, involved in a small story with his thief of a brother.

The main story involving Anakin and Padme, is a lot of fun and also teases Anakin’s future look when he dons a mask and cape.  One of the great things about this story is that the use of a Actress to spread propaganda fits perfectly, especially as this feels like an extension of the “Clone Wars” animated show.  There is plenty of action and a few quick one liners to please Star Wars fans.

Max Rebo’s story is much simpler and feels like its aimed at a much younger audience, its a little too simplistic, but as a bonus side story, its not too bad.

IDW continue to offer a lighthearted Star Wars option for younger readers, the art style is much colourful, but simple.  It works well with the style of stories being told, while I prefer the more realistic artwork from the Marvel Star Wars titles, the “Saturday Morning” feel to this series works well.

OVERALL: The Star Wars Adventures happily fill the void for a casual comic book, aimed at younger audiences, which is what Star Wars is really all about.  While the Max Rebo story was too basic for my liking, I really enjoyed the conclusion of the main “Intermission” story, which delivered an interesting take on “war”.

REVIEW SCORE: 7 out of 10.
