Netflix Has Found It’s Iron Fist
After much consideration, and some doubts from fans that the project would be green-lit, Marvel has finally found it’s Daniel Rand aka the Iron Fist. Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones, has been cast in the pivotal role of the martial arts expert.
Daniel Rand, the Iron Fist, was a young boy whose lineage is tied to an ancient and powerful form of martial arts. After training for many years, Rand returned to defend his home of New York City. It may not seem like it, but ties to the character has already graced the screen. Jeri Hogarth [Carrie-Ann Moss], whom everyone was introduced to on Jessica Jones, in the comics is one of Danny’s father’s good friends. Danny himself also has a strong friendship with Luke Cage and the two have often worked together as Heroes For Hire. Both heroes are currently starring in their own comic series, Powerman and Iron Fist.
With Dexter show-runner Scott Buck on board as show-runner, Iron Fist will surely be another character driven series fitting in line with Netflix’s current adult orientated Marvel shows. This also marks the final set piece for the planned Netflix miniseries called the Defenders. Based around the Marvel comic of the same name, the mini series will focus on the uniting of Daredevil [Charlie Cox], Jessica Jones [Krysten Ritter], Luke Cage [Mike Colter], and Iron Fist as a team against a threat that only together they can defeat, which we can only theorize who that may be (The Hand? The Hood?).
There is also currently some controversy surrounding the recent casting announcement. It appears as though the casting of a Caucasian actor in a role that has many roots in Asian martial arts and culture has upset some of the populace. Others are taking up support of the casting claiming that not only is the character of Danny Rand Caucasian, but they stand by a need to prevent Asian type casting.
Like many heroes, Iron Fist has had many variants in costumes. Curious how they will redesign it for the series?
Although no release date has been given for Iron Fist, with Season 2 of Daredevil premiering next month, Luke Cage airing later this year, and a Season 2 of Jessica Jones on the way, Marvel and Netflix will keep our thirsts quenched for some time.
Do you think Finn Jones has what it takes to learn the mystical ways of the Iron Fist?
