Walt Disney Comics & Stories #730 Comic Book Review
Issue 730 of Walt Disney Comics & Stories consists of two stories, “Music for Melons” from Dutch Donald Duck 9/1987 and “The Search for the Zodiac Stone Chapter 10 of 12: Blondbeard’s Pirate Plunder” from Italian Topolino 1789, 1990. Both of these stories haven’t been printed in the USA before.
“Music for Melons” is the lead story in this comic book and features Donald Duck & the nephews trying to grow the worlds biggest Melon to prove themselves to Uncle Scrooge, who as always comes out on top. I really enjoyed reading this story, there are plenty of funny moments in there and Uncle Scrooge continues to always impress me with his money making schemes.
The Search for the Zodiac Stone continues with Chapter 10, and this time its all about the nephews trying to track down a pirates gold and its a nice story to feature the nephews in a good light, especially with them playing a little trick involving a bull, earlier in the story. I’ll be honest, I’ll be glad when the Zodiac Stone story arc is over, it will allow some more interesting stories to come into the series, however it doesn’t take anything away from this story, bar the last scene, it has no connection with the previous chapters and is its own self contained story. It has been interesting to see how over the past 10 issues, while there is one overriding story of trying to capture the Zodiac Stones, the stories have been all very different.
Another strong issue, featuring Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck and the nephews, plenty of laughs and generally a great read for Duck fans. There is also a variant cover featuring Mr Toad’s Wild Ride vehicles, which is an advance for Disneyland fans.
