Walt Disney Studios Reaches Billions In Record Time
Walt Disney Studios makes record time for Domestic, International and Global revenue this weekend reaching the 1, 2 and 3 billion marks in their respective sections in the shortest time ever recorded.
Here’s the scoop:
According to multiple sources, Walt Disney Studios has obtained more than $1B domestic ($1.121B), $2B international ($2.22B) and $3B global ($3.341B). These marks were achieved in only 128 days, surpassing the previous records set by Universal, who reached $2B international in 162 days and $1B domestic and $3B global in 165 days in 2015. With Captain America: Civil War taking the top spot at the box office and The Jungle Book closing in at second this past weekend, it’s no wonder how Disney was able to break these records in such a short amount of time!
One might be wondering how this record was so easily grasped by the Disney Company’s film division. In reality, it all has to do with the fact that Disney has had some of the top ranked films of the year so far. Zootopia is 2016’s No. 1 film; grossing $956.4M worldwide and $628.8M internationally. As for The Jungle Book and this weekend’s opener Captain America: Civil War, they are ranked at No. 3 and No. 5 on the worldwide scale for 2016 so far
It’s also probably safe to say that Disney’s movie monetary records will not cease any time soon with anticipated releases such as Pixar’s Finding Dory next month and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Rogue One in December expected to bring in more Disney dollars which, in turn, will most likely break more records in the near future.
