Avengers #675 – No Surrender #1 Review
The Avengers latest event, “No Surrender”, means the Avengers main comic book series will be going weekly for 16 issues, with a huge story that sees the Earth stolen and all the major superheroes frozen in time, leaving the lesser superheroes brought off the bench to help save everyone.
This issue brings together all the different Avenger hero teams, including the Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, US Avengers and Occupy Avengers, so that means we have got a huge roster of characters involved in here.
I’ll be totally honest and say the minute all the major heroes became frozen and the lesser known heroes stepped out, I was a little disappointed in where this story is going, since I was hoping all the main heroes I love would be involved, but I’m sure they won’t be frozen for too many episodes, plus it helps push lesser known characters to the front and also helps thin the herd of having too many characters involved at once.
The artwork on this issue is top notch, there is plenty of detail, plenty of color and its easy to see this is a major event that Marvel wanted to put effort into.
As a kick off to a new event, there is plenty of action and drama involved to tell the story of just utter chaos going on everywhere and all the heroes dealing with what’s going on right in front of them, while other characters try to work out what’s going on.
To have this story stretch out over 16 weeks on a weekly basis, is going to be a little expensive, especially with the higher price point, which might result in readers dropping other titles, but I’m certainly very impressed so far and interested to see where it goes.
OVERALL: This “No Surrender” storyline kicks off with a bang, with loads of action, loads of heroes and a huge question hanging over the entire Marvel universe that had me wanting to jump to the next panel instantly and by being weekly, it will keep me entertained. This first issue completely sold me on getting invested in this story.
