Wall-E and Doctor Who Coming to Lego!

In a video released today by the Lego company, it was announced that two new Lego Ideas will see the light of day. For those of you who don’t know, Lego Ideas are fan developed ideas that are submitted to Lego and then voted on by the community. After amassing enough votes in order to advance (over 10,000), the project then has to go through other committees and tests within Lego to see if it is a viable product for mass-production. There are submission periods, and only a select few from each submission period get the green light to advance to production. In a nutshell, to get this far in the process is a major accomplishment.

The first Lego idea announced today was Wall-E, submitted by Pixar animator Angus MacLane, who was actually directing animator for the Wall-E movie. The design was actually built during the making of the movie in 2005, and finished two years later. While what was shown today was not the final product, I, for one, love this block version of Wall-E, and can’t wait to build him myself.

The next announced project today comes from a previous batch of submissions, where Lego still held out hope on its’ future…. Doctor Who and Companions. Andrew Clark designed this awesome Doctor Who inspired build, complete with a TARDIS that opens up. Looks like an awesome build, and one I just might have to get, being a Whovian.

Sadly, today it was also announced that none of the other submissions from the Wall-E batch made it through. It’s a shame, though, because there are some great ideas there. My favorite is the Lego Lightsabers display.

Fortunately, there is some Disney awesomeness within the next batch of hopefuls. Oddly enough, the Helicarrier has already been announced as a Lego build. However, who doesn’t love The Flying Dutchman, made popular in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Additional details on these two new builds for Wall-E and Doctor Who are not known, as final logistics still have to be made. More news will surface later this year, so stay tuned to DisKingdom.com for more details when they arrive.
