Disney Infinity 3.0 Toy Box Speedway Expansion Disc Details
Continuing on with the Disney Infinity 3.0 reveals, Gameinformer posted some details and some gameplay footage of one of the new Toy Box expansion disc, Toy Box Speedway.
This Expansion disc will be sold separately and will be available after the initial launch of Disney Infinity 3.0 and features a more an experience that will stretch the engine beyond what’s available to the average player in the interest of creating a refined experience, such as having a huge Marshmallow monster in the middle of the track. And it offers the chance to completely mix of the worlds:
Speedway is a racing-focused Toy Box game that seeks to offer as much kart-racing action as your typical Mario Kart, but with Disney Infinity’s deep roster of characters, vehicles, and tracks. If you want to place Han Solo in the Disney World teacup-ride vehicle and fire off missiles at Thor as he speeds by in The Incredibles’ Incredicar on Wreck-it Ralph’s Sugar Rush track, this will be a destination for you.
Sumo Digit were brought in to help develop the racing within the game, the company previously worked on Sonic & Little Big Planet racing games, with the idea of bringing the fun from the classic Super Mario Kart days into Disney Infinity.
Included in the article are two videos, one showing off a Star Wars Tatoonie track and another featuring Frozen. Both videos show a variety of new toys, buildings, vehicles plus footage of Yoda, Darth Maul and Chewbacca driving vehicles. They also show some new differences to the racing mechanic with new boosts.
One of the key upgrades to the driving is that they have tweaked the driving controls to tighten them up and make them feel more consistent with a quality kart racer.
“We’re aiming for it be as much fun and as pick-up-and-play as Mario Kart. That is absolutely the intent,” Millard says. Those tweaks and changes are implemented throughout all of Disney Infinity 3.0, not just to Speedway. We got a chance to play with the new controls and though Sumo insists most of the tweaks were minor saying, “We’re using all of the existing technology, but we’re sort of making the numbers slightly different,” the change is dramatic.
Some of the tracks included in the Speedway include Wreck It Ralph, Frozen, Monsters Inc and Star Wars. The new racing system also now allows 6 racers to take part, rather than 4 in 2.0, though its expected to remain just 4 “players” + 2 computer controlled opponents.
