Lego Star Wars Review: Rey’s Speeder (75099)
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens fever is upon us, with a lot of companies taking advantage of this epic movie, already expecting to shatter box office records when released on December 18th, with a wide range of movie tie-in merchandise. As you would expect, our friends at Lego have released a selection of build kits celebrating iconic characters and vehicles from the movie. One of these builds is Rey’s Speeder (75099). Last week, at a Lego Star Wars event for the newest Droid Tales episode, I received a complimentary copy of the build. Since I love building Lego sets, and I know a lot of you are Star Wars fans, i decided to share with you my impressions of the set, as well as pictures from the build. Here we go.
Included in the 193 pc build is Rey’s Speeder, the Rey Minifig, and the Unkar’s Thug Minifig. Rey comes with her desert head covering, a satchel, and her staff weapon. Unkar’s Thug comes with a hood and a gold weapon.
What I am appreciating more and more about Lego builds these days are the numbered bags. I always got frustrated in the past with having multiple bags to open with no rhyme or reason to the piece packing. These numbered bags, with corresponding directions in the instruction book, makes things a lot less confusing for an adult, let alone a child.
The first bag contains the inner part of Rey’s Speeder and the Unkar’s Thug Minifig.
I have no idea what part the Unkar’s Thug plays in the movie, and to me he is a blah sort of Minifig. However, if he is a minion sort of character, it makes sense. Obviously, Rey’s Speeder doesn’t look like much being half done, but it’s showing potential.
The second, and final, bag contains Rey and the rest of the Speeder.
A couple of the fun features of the Speeder are the opening sides to get to Rey’s salvage area, and the fact that it launches studs as projectiles towards enemies.
I really like this build, and my introduction into the Force Awakens line of Lego builds. I’m already looking to see which other builds I want to add to my collection. I am loving the idea of collecting the Minifigs, at least, but sometimes it’s cheaper to just get the builds that they go with instead of paying after-market for them. Plus is that, at the event last week, Lego also gave out individual BB-8 Minifigs, so I don’t have to get one of the two builds that currently include him… but I might anyways. You can never get enough BB-8. Here he is with Rey from this build.
Do you have any of the Force Awakens builds from Lego? Which one should I get next? Let me know.
