Disney has had another successful year at the Broadway Box Office in 2015 with The Lion King coming out as the top earner of the year with Aladdin also proving to be a big hit as the third highest earning show on Broadway.
The Lion King took over $102.8 million dollars through 2015, which in its 18th year on the state, it has taken in over $6 billion worldwide. Aladdin was able to bring in $81 million at the box office, meaning Disney held onto the box office crown.
For “The Lion King,” 2015 added $102.8 million (for the 52-week period ending Dec. 27) to the overall haul of the 18-year-old Broadway hit, which in all its international incarnations has taken in more than $6 billion. Add to that the $81 million rung in by “Aladdin,” and Disney easily held onto the year’s Broadway box office crown.
And with Aladdin coming to London’s west end in 2016 and also heading to Japan and Australia, plus the Lion King is showing no signs of slowing down and the international tour still bringing in huge numbers, these live shows are still proving as popular as ever.
