Could Drones Be Part Of Future Live Firework Shows At Disney Theme Parks?

In 2015, Disney applied for permission to fly drones above Disneyland and Walt Disney World, as part of live fireworks shows.  Disney is planing on using the drones or “Flixels”, which is what Disney are calling them, which is short for Floating Pixels, as LED lights to form patterns or to have up to 50 “Flixels” working together to carry character marionettes as part in either an existing show or perhaps a new show in the future.

Disney is only planning on using geofencing to stop the drones from flying within 100 metres of the audience and would also keep the drones flying over water or in restricted areas.  The drones would also only fly 150 metres high and at a speed of 6 knots per hour.

It certainly sounds like an interesting way to use drones to improve live shows and having them fly over water, such as over the lake at Epcot, would keep them away from guests as Disney would need to make sure this system was 100% safe for guests.
