Disney LongBox : Disney Princess #3 REVIEW
SNOW WHITE- FOWL NOTE
Our first big story of the issue begins with Snow White singing merrily to herself in the forest until suddenly a turkey joins in. Snow White offers to teach it how to sing properly with her other avian friends.
I personally liked the use of the different species of birds in the story especially an emu and an owl, Disney sure love their owls don’t they ?
JASMINE – RAINY NEW WORLD
Aladdin and Jasmine are out on yet another carpet ride but things don’t go as planned. Would like to see Aladdin return in a future issue.
RAPUNZEL- HOW TO SLEEP
Hilarious gag strip showcasing different ways Rapunzel would sleep at night back when she had her long blonde hair. Would love to see more like this
AURORA- DARKNESS IN THE CASTLE
Aurora hasn’t finished exploring all of the castle since her return on her 16th birthday. The fairies convince her to start at the basement. I must say the lighting and techniques Amy used when the characters are in the basement is nothing short but amazing and beautiful.
BELLE- JUST SIX MORE CHAPTERS
Belle loves reading books, she loves them so much that she reads them throughout the entire night tho Mrs.Potts and Lumiere might not share that same passion.
ARIEL- MUSIC CHEMISTRY
In the second long story of the issue ,Ariel is tired of just being like her sisters and wants to stand out more by learning to play an instrument. She goes through many in the story including the bass, an eel-lictric guitar ( Yes that was a bad pun, I know), an harp , a flute and many others.
She finally finds one that she likes but you will have to read it for yourself to see which she picks for the big concert.
BELLE- CHOOSE YOUR OWN STORY
Belle chooses her next read randomly while Chip is disappointed that his favourite book was not chosen.
RAPUNZEL- POOR FLYNN
Rapunzel shows Flynn her latest work but even she can’t get Flynn’s nose right but something tells me she did so on purpose. Read the story to find out why she did
MULAN-MEDITATION
In the third long story of the issue, Mulan and her friends are relaxing on grass but she feels they have gone soft enjoying the spoils of their victory over Shan-Yu. Mulan decides to meditate with them and learn inner concentration but a certain lizard, I mean dragon keeps pestering them throughout the meditation.
Overall this was a very funny and charming story , Yao, Ling and Chien-Po are easily my favourite characters in Mulan so I was very happy to see them featured in Disney Princess.
MERIDA- ARCHERY , IT’S ALL IN THE POSTURE
Merida and Macintosh are out practicing archery as he tried explaining to her that the key to archery is proper form, you can predict how well it goes.
BELLE- PRIVACY PLEASE
Belle is getting tired of everything being done for her by the enchanted appliances of the castle and tries to tell Beast that she wants to be able to take care of herself. The appliances, of course, don’t want to stop since she is their guest.
Beast soon loses his temper and causes a mess once again, it’s up to Belle to save the day once again.
I love this story as well and I really have to give Amy credit with how well she has drawn the Beast in the story. Beast is quite possibly one of the hardest Disney characters to draw next to Stitch.
POCAHONTAS- NO LAUGHING MATTER
In the final long story of the comic, Pocahontas is invited to a special ceremony held by Kekata where her future husband Kocoum , the man with no smiles. She tries her best to make him laugh through various different antics. This is indeed a side of Pocahontas that’s rarely shown in the film and I love it.
RAPUNZEL- THE LATE FLYNN GETS NOTHING
Rapunzel has noticed that Eugene has missed breakfast three days in a row so she sends Pascal to go wake him up in his usual humorous way.
MERIDA- MACGUFFIN ARMOUR
In the final story of the issue, Merida tries giving dating advice to the tall chubby Young Macguffin by telling him to dress him in a way to make himself more confident but he simply over-does it. I’m sure he will get it right next time.
PROS:
Wonderful Art from Amy Mebberson , Great Jokes courtesy of Georgia Ball , Patrick Storck and Pat Shand and lots of variety in terms of the princesses in this issue.
- More longer stories, something I felt was lacking in the first issue
CONS:
-The Cinestory of Star vs the Forces of Evil Preview , its a waste of 10 pages
