Is FOX Planning On Rebooting The X-Men Franchise?
With the X-Men movie franchise bringing in over $4 Billion since the original X-Men movie was released in 2000, to be followed by X2 & Last Stand, a few Wolverine spinoffs, a new “trilogy” and the very successful Deadpool, FOX has reached a point where they look to be totally rebooting the franchise.
While the franchise has had a time travelling reboot already as it headed back in time for the last few movies (First Class, Days Of Future Past and Apocalypse), this series has now reached a major issue as Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult have now reached the end of their three picture deal and Apocalypse not doing as well at the box office as FOX wanted. Plus Logan is set to be the last movie starring Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart. Add in issues with the Deadpool sequel losing its director and composer, plus the Gambit spinoff on hold after it also lost its directors, the franchise is looking a little ropey.
When the franchise started in the 2000’s, Marvel movies weren’t the major force they are today as the Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t exist. FOX has announced two projects , where they are working with Disney, for new TV shows like Legion and the New Mutants.
Deadpool was a major successful for FOX, who have already started planning Deadpool 3, which is set to include another X-Men team, the X-Force. Deadpool would however be one character that could jump from the “existing” timeline to a new reboot, which just a a simple 4th wall comment.
Could we see FOX and Disney work together to bring a new rebooted version of the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe or perhaps FOX will decide to completely reboot the franchise?
