Disney’s “Elena and the Secret of Avalor” is Cable TV’s #1 Telecast of 2016 With Kids 2-11
The enthusiastic response — on and off screen — to Disney’s Princess Elena character continues to build as its television movie, “Elena and the Secret of Avalor” simulcast Sunday, November 20, on Disney Channel and Disney Junior, ranks as 2016’s #1 cable TV telecast among Kids 2-11 (Live + 3 data, 2.245 million).
Princess Elena’s stories of leadership, adventure and strong bonds with family incorporate influences from diverse Latin and Hispanic cultures. Widely appealing, the simulcast was also the #2 telecast in Total Viewers (4.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.4 million) across all kid-targeted TV networks. Among Hispanic viewers, the simulcast ranks as the #1 TV telecast among Girls 2-5 (6.2 rating) and Girls 2-11 (4.2 rating), 4Q2016 to-date. For its premiere and six encore telecasts thus far, “Elena and the Secret of Avalor” has reached 12.2 million Total Viewers, including 5.9 million Kids 2-14 and 4.4 million Adults 18-49.

Around the world, “Elena of Avalor” is posting strong ratings on Disney Channel and Disney Junior. In Canada, the movie “Elena and the Secret of Avalor” was the top program of the quarter on Disney Junior. In the UK, the series has delivered rating increases among girls and notably, a triple-digit ratings increase among Boys 4-12.
On the free-to-air Disney Channel in Spain, two premiere episodes ranked #1 in the timeslot with Girls 4-12 reaching nearly 60% of the entire kids viewing universe in Spain. In Mexico, the “Elena of Avalor” premiere was #1 among all kid-focused channels. In Brazil, the series’ first weekend ratings nearly doubled Disney Channel Brazil’s ratings during the most recent month.
“Elena of Avalor” has received a nomination for the International Animated Film Society’s Annie Award in the Best Animated Television Broadcast for Children category.
Off screen, viewers’ experience extends to Disney Parks where Elena of Avalor greets well-wishers with stories and songs from her native land during special character appearances.
Disney Consumer Products’ popular costumes, apparel, books, backpacks and home décor take inspiration from Princess Elena and her kingdom of Avalor. The “Elena of Avalor” doll has been nominated by the Toy Industry Association, Inc. for its annual Toy of the Year, and the Elena of Avalor consumer products assortment has also been nominated in the License of the Year category.
A special “Navidad” episode with guest stars Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin”), Justina Machado (“Six Feet Under”) and Latin Grammy Award-winning recording artist Gaby Moreno will premiere Friday, December 9, on Disney Channel. Disney Publishing has also released “Elena of Avalor Feliz Navidad: A Royal Christmas” storybook.
“Elena of Avalor” stars Aimee Carrero as the voice of Elena; Jenna Ortega as Princess Isabel; Chris Parnell, Yvette Nicole Brown and Carlos Alazraqui as the jaquins Migs, Luna and Skylar, respectively; Emiliano Díez as Francisco; Julia Vera as Luisa; Christian Lanz as Chancellor Esteban; Jillian Rose Reed as Naomi; Joseph Haro as Mateo; Jorge Diaz as Gabe; Keith Ferguson as Zuzo; and Joe Nunez as Armando. The recurring guest voice cast includes: Constance Marie, Lou Diamond Phillips, Rich Sommer, Tyler Posey, Lucas Grabeel and Echo Kellum.
