“Moana” Repeats No. 1 at the Box Office
According to early reports this morning, Disney’s Moana is set to be the number 1 film again at the box office. The film is expected to generate up to $30 million in North America alone. On opening weekend, Moana topped films like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them and Marvel’s Doctor Strange and is set to top Fantastic Beasts once again. The film declined from it’s $56.8 million opening performance, but is still set to bring in revenue for the next few weeks.
After being open for 1 month, Doctor Strange will finish with $215 million domestically. A senior media analyst with comScore, Paul Dergarabedian, said that the post-Thanksgiving cinema slowdown is acknowledged by studios. He says it’s the marketplace’s way of catching a breath before the holiday film selection is released. Disney-Lucasfilm’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is expected to top the December box office, extending Disney’s run into another month.
