Venom Movie Swinging Into Cinemas In 2018
Spider-Man: Homecoming is heading to the big screen this summer and it looks like a solo movie based on Venom is being released by Sony on October 5th 2018. The release date has opened up following many movies shuffling dates including DC’s Aquaman into December, following Avatar 2 being delayed.
Venom will be written by Scott Rosenberg (“Jumanji”) and Jeff Pinkner (“The Dark Tower”), and Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will be producing the picture. With Alex Kurtzman directing.
Sony had been planning solo Spider-Man villain movies for Venom and the Sinister Six, after the Amazing Spider-Man 2, but the movie didn’t go as well as planned, resulting in Sony making a deal with Disney to include Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new movie is set to focus on the anti-hero and isn’t connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be its own franchise.
Our Take:
Being totally honest, not having Venom as part of the MCU sounds a bad idea, Venom’s powers and look require some interaction with Spider-Man at some point. I’d love to see Venom done properly and a solo movie after Venom’s introduction could be awesome but I’m worried this is weird side project.
