Disney and UPS Win Case Against Teamsters
The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, which represented 4 Disney workers, announced the ruling for a case against Teamsters. Judge Michael Rosas ruled that Teamsters had to accept the resignations of the workers and reimburse them for dues collected with interest. This was due to Teamsters apparently obstructing workers attempts to drop their memberships.
According to the OS, Workers filed federal unfair labor practice charges against Teamsters local 385 back in 2014. Teamsters local 385 is one of six organizations that make up the service trades council union and represent workers such as bus drivers and character actors. The complaint stated that eight workers attempted to resign from Teamsters and were frequently ignored or got delayed responses when information was sought out on how to properly resign. Clay Jefferies, the president, was frequently not in the office and resignations had to be made in writing out to him. According to Rosas, “Numerous messages and inquires left for Jeffries and other union officials were systemically ignored and he failed to return copies of the Charging Parties at their request,”
